On Friday, we got together with our good friends, Pat and Shannon, after toooo long. They are a great couple to explore new restaurants with!
Erik sourced a new place to start our evening, so we pulled an audible and attended the grand opening event at Dan Meiner's new event space at 25th and Pennway. It was a fun shop and space to explore, and we had free beers, wine and vodka drinks. Ummm, yes, please. Also, we got to sample the Pieroguys Pierogies and they were delish.
(We initially planned to have a pre-dinner drink at The Westside Local. It's on the list for next time!)
Our destination was The Farmhouse at 300 Delaware in the River Market.
Erik and I first learned of The Farmhouse when we saw the chef, Michael Foust, at the Healthy Food and Good Wine event at St. Joseph Hospital earlier this spring. He participated in the Iron Chef event (far right, above) and strongly believes in 'tip to tail' cooking with as much local produce as possible. He even works on some of the farms that supply his produce in his off time. (And, Door to Door Organics also supplies some of their produce, so that's an extra bonus). We had a really great meal!
We started with the special flatbread with veggies, goat cheese and mozzarella. I had the farmer's salad, which was truly fabulous, and Erik had the spinach salad. (He suggested to our waitress that they add baskets of the crispy goat cheese to the menu.) I had the hangar steak with house cut fries and Erik had the lamb duo - both very, very good - and I think Pat and Shannon were equally pleased with their meals. They had a nice, affordable, wine list and all in all we had a lovely evening.
This is the kind of restaurant that you really want to see succeed - consider a reservation on your next date night!
