Healthy Food & Good Wine

Molly's mom works for the St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation and they held a fundraiser event last Saturday night that focused on local food and wine ... could this be anymore in our wheel house? Needless to say, Team Lund was super jacked for this event and proceeded to photo all the sights ... and most importantly the EATS.

The night kicked off with an Iron Chef Competition ... this event was sponsored by Somerset Ridge, a local Kansas winery in Louisberg. Most folks think that Louisburg is only all about apple cider ... but they have some vineyards taking shape out there. Really good stuff.

Imagine, if you will, a horseshoe of tables lined with local restaurants each offering a signature dish. Kid in a candy store hardly describes how we attacked this set-up ... here is the guided tour.

First course ... BLANC Burgers offering up Ahi burger on a brioche (left) & Blue Bird Bistro serving a polenta cake with brisket and a blueberry sauce (right). Real nice way to kick things off ... no doubt.

Next stop ... Cafe Augusta. May not have heard of this place, but a great little bistro in Lenexa around 87th Street and Quivira. They had a great combo plate with curry squash soup and filet medallion with Spanish cheese and pickled onions. Real solid.

Continuing our tour de food ... Jack Stack BBQ. Burnt ends. Classic. Nuff said.

Here is another little diamond in the rough, may not have heard of it. Casa Somerset. Here is a risotto loaded up with fresh veg (rocking the Jamie Oliver lingo). Great people. Another Louisburg institution.

How about a little Asian persuasion? Nikko had a sushi bar fired up. Spicy tuna roll (left) and a new twist fruit sushi with pineapple and peanut sauce (right).

The world tour continues ... next stop, India. Paradise India had arguably the longest line all night. We haven't had a lot of Indian food, but it was stellar. Here we have a nice sampling of Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Pakora, and of course, Naan!

Room 39 ... Thai chicken meatball. Spicy! Good stuff.

The Farmhouse ... At the top of our hit list. Located in the river market, this spot's motto is "tip-to-tail" using the best available crops from LOCAL farms. Nice. Here is a little taste of vichyssoise. Mmmmm.

Final stop to stuff your gullet ... Zest. Keeping it light ... a real nice yellow fin salad.

You didn't think we bailed on dessert, did you? Come on ... Nice palate cleanse with the Red Velvet ice cream by Here's Your Scoop and a KC original, The Roasterie, for a nice cup of Joe. City of Fountains blend is the house brew at our house ... check it out.

Last, but certainly not least, our new best friends from Door-to-Door Organics set up a booth. We've been using the service for three weeks now and can't endorse it strongly enough. Do it! They may or may not have given us a five finger discount on a pair of fresh artichokes, which we steamed up for Mother's Day feast on Sunday night.

To the entire crew at St. Joseph Medical Center ... BRAVO! Good times ... see you next year.

We're still recovering --- not sure about next year! This was a first and hopefully, not last, iteration of this event. Everyone's raving. Food fabulous, weather even better, great folks greased with some wonderful wine. Wowzah!

Yum-O. Maybe the TCU girls should make this their annual trip to KC? I am hungry just looking at the photos.
