Miss Ellen continues to be a delight (mostly) and is so much more interesting than when we brought her home and she slept all day. (Although - not going to lie - there are days I wish for that back, too).
She is talking up a storm and continues to be the Queen of NO-ville; the CEO of NO, Inc.. She is becoming much more adventurous and active and is enamored with all things "Ow-side!".
Her vocabulary is really growing, I think partially due to her social nature and partially due to the influence of her friends at daycare. I think she is using 75-80 words now with a lot of frequency. We noticed a huge change in her "sentences" after coming home from New York. She babbles and babbles and babbles all day, but it is much more "sentence-like" than before.
She is starting to use some phrases, like "I sit" and "It's a (blank)" or "That's a (blank)". Aunt Betsy and her dog, Minnie, came over this weekend to play and Ellen asked, "Where Mi-Mee go?" We walked by the open linen closet the other day and she said "That's mess". Yep, you're right, Ellen. What are you going to do about it?
Her favorite songs these days are Row Row, Bus and Wash. (For those of you not up with toddler-ese, they are Row Row Row Your Boat, The Wheels on the Bus, and Itsy Bitsy Spider). In fact, Bus is currently the go-to fix for tantrums in the back seat while we are driving. If one of us starts singing, it is a guaranteed smile.
She still loves reading books and, in fact, strongly wishes to sit on her floor and read her own books at bedtime instead of reading in her chair with one of us. She is exploring a new music kit with cymbals and a triangle and maracas (rock-as!). Oh the joy. She likes to stack everything, even if it isn't really stack-able -like 2 sippy cups on top of each other. And she also likes to test everything out by sitting on it - even if it isn't sit-able.
She likes to sit on the couch, but can't get up on it by herself. There is a lot of "up, up, up!" and then she pretends to sleep (nigh-nigh!) on the pillows. She consistently uses "up" to mean both up and down, despite our many corrections.
She continues to eat most everything with gusto, but especially cheese and fruit. She would eat 10 oranges a day if I would let her. Which I won't.
She will (somewhat) willingly allow her teeth to be brushed, but only if she can sit with her feet in the sink and splash in the little bit of water left in the bottom.
We had our 18-month visit with the pediatrician today and she checked out just fine. Here are her stats:
Weight: 24.6 pounds, 50th percentile
Height: 31 inches, 30th percentile
Head: 19 inches, 85th percentile
We feel so lucky to have her in our lives, and also especially lucky that all of you enjoy her, too. She is a constant source of entertainment and we just love her to pieces.
Ellen was napping the other day and I said to Erik, while we were eating lunch and watching Food Network, "This feels like our old life." Quiet days filled with I'm-not-sure-what. While it is nice to take a little vacation to Old Life every now and then, I'm pretty stinking happy with New Life.

Thanks for sharing Ellen!
Yay Ellen! Can't believe how much she is talking already. She is going to smart like her mama! And I hear you on the old life. Enjoy a few moments of it here and there, but wouldn't trade the new life for ANYthing.
Can't wait to see that 'kini at my pool this summer!
The dreiling's heart Ellen! She is so fun. Can't beleive how much sass Lucy shared with her at school we told her to only share a little...I swear.
