Green Thumb

I don't have one, in case you were wondering.

I never cared about gardening or landscaping until we had our own house. I didn't like the way the old shrubs and plants looked, so about 5 years ago we tore most of it out and replaced it all. We had a professional draw up a plan for us for the front and back yards, then we purchased and did the heavy lifting. HEAVY. LIFTING.

Everything was so petite and pretty.

And then, it grew and grew and GREW.

Now, factor Ellen and no time into the equation, and our yard is totally overgrown. It looks kind of pretty when everything is blooming, but now the blooms are off and I'm practically swallowed by the foliage (thanks to record-setting rain this spring).

In April, I organized a talk for the Junior League about container gardening. The speaker was really great and he answers a lot of the questions on the KC Gardens blog on the Kansas City Star website.

He let us all know about the Johnson County Master Gardener Hotline at 913-715-7050. You can call and ask them any question about gardening and they will know the answer or get you the answer.

I called today about the best time to prune shrubs and transplant irises, daylilies and hostas. The very nice lady said now is the time.

Great. Who is coming over to help?
