Trying something new

We were at a super fun wedding this weekend in Lawrence and the talk amongst the girls turned to organic food delivery. Yes, we are old. (Or, at least I am).

I was tipped off to Door to Door Organics. They deliver in parts of Colorado, Kansas City, Michigan and the East Coast. I don't know how I had never heard of them, but I signed up right away!

Our first order came today and I'm pleased so far. Our delivery day is Tuesday, which works great for our schedule. I can check the website on Sunday to see what will be delivered and then plan my weekly menu and fill in with other necessities at the grocery store. You can get all fruit, all veggies or both, and you can even swap out or order extra specials for the week. We got the smallest box for $32 delivered, which I think will be plenty for our family to start.

It's organic produce that is regional, if not truly local. Ideally, I would like to buy from truly local farmers, but it just doesn't happen as often as I would like. We used to participate in the Rolling Prairie CSA and we liked it, but the Wednesday pick-up just didn't fit with our schedule. We ended up wasting a lot of food and I generally hate wasting food, but it is especially terrible when you meet the people who toiled the fields to get you that food. I also love the farmer's market on Saturdays, but we don't get there as often as I would like, and I generally try to avoid cooking on the weekends. :)

So, we'll give this a go ... maybe you will, too?

Love it! Our first attempt was too difficult with the pick up and our new one is working out really well. The best part is the food is SO, SO yummy. We don't know what we are getting ahead of time, but it has worked out because the flavor is so good you can make really simple dishes. I just finished a BLT (except I used arugula because I had already finished our greens)-fabulous!
