We braved our first road trip with Ellen last weekend. And, while it wasn't the greatest drive (car sickness and a 3-hour delay coming home due to keys locked in the trunk), we did have an excellent time in the land of 10,000 lakes.
And, the occasion? To celebrate (a bit late) the 90th birthday of Erik's grandmother, Florence. What an accomplishment! Grandma Florence is an amazing lady and is the best
lefse-maker I know. Honestly, she is the only lefse maker I know, but I'm fully confidant she is the best.

We also got to spend a lot of time with Erik's brothers and their families. Even though 3/4ths of us live in Kansas City, we don't get to spend this much time together. It was very nice!
Here is Josh's wife, Darla, and Anne and Noel's daughter, Meredith. The only picture I have of Josh is one with a name tag on his forehead, so I think we'll skip it.

Here is Uncle Pat, or as Ellen calls him, Elmo Pat. We have been working really hard on names and she is getting very good, but for some reason Uncle = Elmo in her mind, and only when it comes to Pat. And, she has been asking for him ever since we got home!

Pat's wife, Christina, also didn't make it into the pictures, but we'll catch her when she is here for a visit in a few weeks. These are their girls, Sophie and Kate. So darling, right? And - they love Ellen and Ellen loves them, which makes for excellent playmates.

And last but not least, Anne and Elliot (patiently waiting for cake) ...

and Noel and baby Meredith. Ellen was looking at these pictures today and kept pointing to Noel and saying "NoNoNo", and then I realized that "Uncle Noel" must sound like "No No No" to her, so I guess that is his new name.

We also had a great time with all of Erik's other family members. And, by all, I mean ALL. There were 63 adults and 18 kids gathered together to celebrate! There are too many people to document here, and truthfully my photos are incomplete because I spent a lot of time chasing Ellen around the Embassy Suites, despite all the help from her cousins and grandparents. We were able to gather in the evenings, though, so all the cousins could reminisce. Good stories all around ...

Hope we can do it again sooner rather than later!
