No comments on the picture quality - we are amateurs. Zest was very busy on Saturday night - apparently those in the Johnson County bubble haven't heard about the economy. It is a nice space and very big. The menu is a little random - supposed to be "comfort food with a twist". Great wine list, as you would expect from the owner of Joe D's.
Erik started with the butternut squash bisque - good flavor, very thick, could have been hotter. I started with the spinach salad - tasted good, a little heavy on the dressing. Erik had the rib eye with asparagus and shoestring fries - again, tasted good, but there are better steaks in KC. I had the meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes - their signature dish and most popular entree. It really was very good with a huge portion (meatloaf sandwich for lunch today).
Yes, we had dessert. The dessert choices were pretty standard - creme brulee (see above - partially devoured), cheesecake, chocolate cake, bread pudding, ice cream. Probably would skip dessert next time (or, truthfully, stop somewhere else on the way home!).Overall impression:
1. Great to be out on date night - didn't really matter where!
2. Nice meal, especially considering the gift card.
3. Would we go back? Although the location is great for meeting friends, and the wine list is good, we might spend our dinner dollars at one of our favorites next time. When your nights out are limited, you must be choosy!
