Ok, here are some more to tide you over. I swear I have lots of pictures to post, just no time to do it. Our family trip to Branson was great, but I am just barely recovered 2 weeks later and add in nightly swim lessons and child wrangling and, well, I'm spent.
Georgia is more and more vocal and her latest noises sound like "Aye yi yi!" which is a pretty great reflection of how I feel most of the time.
We are reading "The Littles" series of chapter books that Betsy shared with us. Really cute stories that I don't remember ever reading - about families of Little people that live in the walls of homes and go on adventures. One of them had a picture of a rotary phone and I asked Ellen if she knew how it worked: "Sure. You spin that wheel." Oh, where have you seen one? "At school in the Baby room - a toy. And on Max and Ruby." So, thank you Fisher Price and Nickelodeon. (Also, she said, Mom - this book is old fashioned, right?)
After staying up way too late for no reason, and getting up unusually early with Georgia, I was dragging a bit in the afternoon. I sighed / yawned in the chair and Ellen said, "Late night, Mom? Cat bite your tongue?"
We are working more on sounding out letters and writing and such (which Ellen is variably interested in). We were reading a book about the Zoo and I asked her to tell me the letters Z-O-O and sound out the word. I asked her what sound "Z" makes and she said, "You know, (imitating) honth shooo - snoring."
We walked up to the local school playground on one of the recent nice afternoons. The cloud was fully of puffy, gorgeous clouds, a few of which looked a little dark. As the dark ones got closer I told her it was time to get home so we didn't get caught in the rain. We turned the corner and she yelled out, "Mom! Look at that beautiful dayset!"
Ells, how was your quiet time?
Good. I was just planning a trip.
Oh, really? Where are you going?
Northern Africa.
Interesting. What are you going to do there?
Oh, nothing much. Mostly ride roller coasters.
I don't see any eyes in the back of your head! You were lying to me!
Family Vacation Edition:
(Ellen slept with us to avoid keeping her cousins up all night - she is terrible to sleep with)
Erik: Ells, thanks for kicking me all night.
Ellen: Thanks for LETTING me kick you all night!
Erik: You my dog, Ells!
Ellen: Hey! I'm not a dog. You are.
Playing Alphabet I Spy on the way home from Branson ...
Erik: I've got it - D for a Dotted line.
Ellen, from the backseat: Nice one, bro.
And, last night, as Ellen whined/whimpered/cried in bed, Erik went up to check on her.
"Branson. It's all gone, Dad."
What's all gone?
"The love from my cousins. The hugs and the kisses. It's all gone."
Awwww ....
