Told ya that the weekly Georgia update wouldn't last long. She is 3 weeks today, so here is a little update on what the girls have been up to.
Georgia continues to be a good little baby. She is starting to be more wakeful during the days and, in fact, seems more wakeful than I remember Ellen being. Ellen was born a full week earlier and I think it just took her longer to "wake up". I generally had to wake Ellen to eat during the days for weeks and weeks and Georgia is much the same, though is starting to stir or fuss a bit if the 3 hour mark is approaching. She has really been good at nights, though it is still an adjustment and tests my patience wondering when I will be able to get more sleep. It's all relative - I think I am sleeping much more than I did with Ellen at the same age, but still much less than I was about 6 weeks ago. We are back to swaddling, which she may or may not like, and really the only time that Georgia is "challenging" seems to be during the night when it's time to go back to sleep.
Ellen continues to be super-good with Georgia - loves to hug and kiss and cuddle on her. There hasn't been even a suggestion that she doesn't like her or wants her to leave. There have been some meltdowns related to other things and some "nobody likes me" conversations, mostly directed at friends from school. I expected a period of adjustment for her and have been happy with how smoothly things have gone. Our first two "home days" last week, just the 3 girls, were actually very good. I think if I wasn't sleep deprived they would have been even better with a mother who had more patience.
And just a few funnies:
The first night we came home with Georgia, Erik was holding her on the couch after dinner and started to remind Ellen about bedtime. Ellen busted out a new song "I stay up later than you!" directed at Georgia, in a nanny-nanny-boo-boo tone, accompanied by a booty shaking dance. Hilarious. That has been one of the things Ellen was happiest about related to having a baby sister - that she would get to stay up later than someone for a change.
When prompted about her baby sister's name, Ellen will occasionally call her Angela. When asked to expand on that, she calls her Angela Georgia Charles Lund. This comes from her newest obsession - "Mona the Vampire" DVDs. This was a last minute grab from the library before Halloween and has proven to be a godsend. It's a cute little cartoon show from Canada - a group of friends dress up and solve problems that all involve monsters. Thank you, Mona.
Also, Mona introduced Ellen to the world of pixies. She came to me one day, very serious, and said that she REALLY wanted a pixie for Christmas. Why? Because the pixies are nice and help with lots of things, like making beds and cleaning up. Yes, Ellen, I would like a pixie, too.
Finally, for some (wonderful) reason, Ellen's bedtimes have been pretty good (not 100 trips back and forth) and she has actually been sleeping "late" until at least 6:45am, but sometimes even 7:30am! One day after a decent quiet time, she grabbed all her important things to come downstairs. She sees me make the trek every morning - baby, boppy, water, phone, pacifier. She had a bear, bunny, and blanket in her mouth ... "Mom, I am really getting a workout today!"
