Happy birthday!

Erik celebrated a milestone birthday this week ... the big 3-5 ... yikes. I feel like we are about 23 (and her certainly acts it sometimes!), but pictures would say otherwise. Our wedding pictures, for example - who were those young kids?

Oh, well. So happy and thankful to add another healthy year to the scorecard and here's to hoping for many, many more.

It was a pretty low-key celebration. Thankfully Erik and I both feel the same about our own birthdays and our anniversary - it's nice to celebrate, and often our parents are nice enough to watch Ellen so we can get out to eat, but gifts aren't a big priority. We mostly buy ourselves what we need anyway, but I did manage to sneak in a new Boulevard Brewery t-shirt that I thought Erik would like. He really did like it and, in fact, wondered if I had been secretly reading his text messages to find out that he wanted it. No, I didn't. I'm just that good.

The birthday boy got to pick where he wanted to go for birthday dinner and we ended up at Johnny C's Pizza. This is Erik's favorite pizza place - St. Louis style - and I never go with him. In fact, as he told Ellen, she almost wasn't born because he took me there once on a date and I hated it. He has had birthday parties at Johnny C's since he was a teenager and I'm convinced that his nostalgic feelings for the place are why he thinks it tastes so good, but he was happy and Ellen was excited and that is what really counts.

We came home for cake - can't have a birthday without cake! (At least not when you have a 3-year-old and a pregnant wife).  Erik said he drove home wondering if I knew what his favorite kind of cake was. Who does he think I am? You can't spend the last 17+ years with someone and NOT know their favorite kind of cake. Thankfully for me, it's Boston Cream Pie and therefore really should be purchased, not homemade. :) I took Ellen to the bakery and it's the first one she picked out, too! Probably had something to do with the pink frosting accent ...

Happy Birthday!

That's my birthday cake of choice, too!! Maybe I shouldn't have broken up with Erik in kindergarten...
