Ellen-isms

Some funny and touching "deep thoughts" from our 3 1/2 year old that I forgot yesterday ....

One night last week Ellen and Erik were snuggling before bed. (It's mostly a stall tactic, but cozy nonetheless). He said, "Ellen - I love you so much" and she whispered in his ear (that loud toddler whisper), "Dad, I love you so much it's hard to breathe". He smiled really big, told her thank you so much, then promptly told her to never use that as a pick-up line at The Wheel.

And, I keep a notebook in my purse and I write down funny things that Ellen says because they are almost always in the car and I'll never remember otherwise. Case in point: I found this gem today from a few weeks back when Maurice Sendak died. I was listening to the NPR Fresh Air re-cap of all his interviews over the years and alternately laughing / crying. I picked Ellen up from school and she caught the last bit of the interview and heard the interviewer say something about his death. She asked all about who died and why and where they went ... we have been having lots of conversations about death lately for some reason. I explained who Maurice Sendak was and that he wrote books that she liked to read and that he was old and sadly died. And she said .... "When I grow up I'm going to be a dentist. Then when I get tired of brushing teeth, I'm going to write books about things I like. Then I'm going to go to heaven and write books about that."

Sounds like a decent plan.
