Catching up

Again, another month went by with few to no pictures of my child. Or anything else, for that matter.

The weather is gorgeous, I'm on protest and not turning on the AC (yet) and we've been busy! House projects are completed (for now) and we will be forced to turn our attention to the yard sooner rather than later.

As you can imagine, KU Basketball captured our hearts and minds and much of March was spent planning and cheering and pacing related to those Jayhawks. Good season, gentlemen.

Erik has been out of town (see above re: Jayhawks), then took a little staycation with Ellen at his parent's house so my TCU girls could come visit! We had a great time, as always, and talked and talked and talked some more. We did escape the house for meals, but otherwise Erik was impressed with the number of wine glasses and empty bottles when he returned home on Sunday.

Miss Ellen continues to be a hoot despite her erratic sleeping and sometimes erratic behavior. For those of you who don't follow me on Facebook, a few gems:

(At the Sonic Happy Hour when some tater tots jumped onto my order):
"Mom, can I have a bite of your apricots?"
Do you mean tater tots?
"Yes, tater tots. Can I have a bite? "

"Mom, I want some ducklings for dinner."
Ducklings?
"Yes, the kind with vegetables inside."
Do you mean dumplings?
"Yes, dumplings. Let's have those for dinner."

(Casual reporting after weekend at Grammy and Papa's):
"Mom, you know what? Girls know best."
Oh, really?
"Yes, Grammy told me. Girls know to put ice in glasses first."
I didn't ask for further detail, but can assume what went down at family dinner. :)

(Dinner negotiation):
Ellen, you need to clean up your toys in your playroom after you finish dinner.
"Ok. If I clean up I can have 2 jellybeans, right?"
We'll talk about it.
"And if I clean up real fast I can have 3, right? But if I clean up slow, I can only have 1."
We'll talk about it.

Yesterday I had the day off to run some errands and gather my wits after a weekend of fun and basketball. Our day started with an emergency drop off of an alternate dee-dee (blankie/lovie) at school after the one we've had since Ellen was 3 months old ("school dee-dee") went missing. "I think I hidded it, Mama." This resulted in a major meltdown when Ellen saw me at school in the middle of the day and then I left again. I crossed 2 errands off my list before I got a call from her teacher that she had smashed her fingers in a sliding door and "they didn't look good" and I needed to come get her. Imagining the worst I went straight to pick her up, only to find a girl eating lunch (not cheese on her sandwich - "I don't like cheese now"), pretty content with a tiny bandaid on an otherwise fine-looking finger. I totally would have left her there, but wasn't sure anyone was prepare for meltdown #2, so home we went.

No nap or "quiet time", of course, so this is what happened on the way home from more errands in the afternoon. Miraculously, she roused herself from sleep with the promise of fro-yo. :)
