Cinco de Mayo y Madre

We finally had our annual Cinco de Mayo party, but just a weekend late. Whoops! We had another commitment on the 5th, which was actually a really hot evening. Our evening was cooler and threatened rain, but I think a good time was had by all.

Ellen was super excited for our "taco party" and asked and asked and asked again WHEN it was finally coming?!?

We had Palomas, per usual ... and a few beers.

And the best addition ever was Bruce from Tamale Wizard.  As much as I love cooking, I'm slowly realizing that cooking for 40+ adults and 20+ kids is a lot of effort and takes some of the fun out of the event. We wanted a food truck and found Bruce and I think he was a perfect fit. The food was delicious and he has a restaurant in the River Market, so we don't have to wait until next year to have it again!

It was good, kid-filled mayhem. Tiring, but super fun. Ellen was up until past 10pm, so I'm sure you can imagine how that went. I loved having our friends over and most of them hadn't seen the new house, so that was really fun, too. Erik told me it was like my Super Bowl ... and, he was kind of right. :)

And then Sunday was Mother's Day! Ellen slept late until 730am and I popped out of bed to get her because my husband "wasn't hungover, but was just SOOO tired." Hmmm. Ellen and I did quite a bit of trash / recycling maintenance outside and enjoyed the sunny weather. She gifted me with this beautiful painting and we all took a nap later in the day.

Oh, and she did tell me "Happy Mother's Day!" and a bit later, "Mom - you smell like laundry!" and then a bit after that, "I had some boogies in my nose and put them on my bed." YOU DID?? "Just kidding mom. I put them on the rug."

Yep, Happy Mother's Day.
